I agree, sky isn't falling.
I would rather it this way to be honest, let Hank worry about the on ice while his agent and the Rangers go back and forth. I'm sure Hank's agent knows the number per year and the amt of years he is willing to accept in a deal, no need to be bothered in season until truly necessary. |

Jan Levine: Lundqvist Technically Cuts Off Negotiations with Rangers
That term techical is key... - airjan23
First, Callahan's reputation around the league among GM's and coaches is off the charts. He's the kind of player every coach wishes they have on the ice, bench and in the room. No matter what happens with the team this year, he's the Captain and should retire a Ranger, or at least I hope so. Pay him.
Hank on the other hand is a little tougher of a negotiation. I suspect the number of years are going to be the stumbling block. At 32, he's entering that last logically 3-4 year window for winning a cup. I know Hasek won a cup at 38 I believe, that was the exception rather than the rule. I'm not saying they should let him walk, but what's the end game? |

That cant be promising. If he stands on his head, he will just make his pricetag go up.
If he struggles (ipso facto then the rangers struggling), then a decent chance he walks after all his talk of the rangers needing to prove they are building a winner to him |

How much is he looking for?
He really cant be expecting much more than the 6.8 he is making now right? |

Tim Thomas was 38 or 39 I think when he won w Boston in 2011, Brodeur has flourished until recently at an old age. Hank is in that upper echelon of elite Goaltenders, I think he can be on top of his game for 6-7 yrs still. He has to get whatever he asks for.
It is a tough year with Cally & Girardi being UFA's too. |

I figured Cally was going to get a Brown like contract but the article posted earlier in the ny post says he would command 6-7 mil per. I hope the Rangers pay him and don't give him too hard of a time because as you mentioned teams would be lining up for him.
On Hank, I can't see him settling for anything less than the 8 yr max. Rangers will be forced to pay him and hope those later years are still pretty decent. Prob 8 yrs 64 mil |

Knowing the Ranger's typical lowball negotiation strategy they are probably offering him 3 million per season. |

You have 10 UFA's(end of season) on your roster. This team could have a very different look after the trade deadline or heading into next season. Slats loves all the action. He'll be a busy man this season. |

Callahan for 6 or 7 million? If you discount his first season, which he only had 13 points, Cally averages 42 points per season. (Even lower average if you include that first season.)
I'm sorry but he isn't worth a penny more than 5 million. Great character guy, and great intangibles but a 42 point average shouldn't net 6 or 7 million.
It's like Clarkson, we knew plenty of teams would want him, and he brings a lot to the table but sometimes you just have to cut ties if a player has crazy expectations. |

We will gladly offer him 9 million a year if he hits the open market. But you guys would be crazy to let him become a UFA. Can't see Sather let that happen. |

Regarding Hank, see if that's what they were going to offer I think thy would have done it already. Maybe it's just a means to an end, we'll see. |

i'm hoping hank accepts an 8 year deal that's front loaded similar to kessel's. give him 10, 10 , 8, 8, 7, 6, 5, 5; $7.375M AAV and call it a day.
by the 8th season, guys like gibson and campbell will be getting paid $9-10M and the cap will be like $105M. |

Yeah, I guess, but Brodeur will be happy to tell you how he has always taken a little less to stay a Devil. |

cally deserves a contract slightly lower than dustin brown. maybe equal if you consider brown taking a hometown discount and assume cally won't. |

Not that it matters but Brodeur and Lou saw eye to eye on the money from the git go, but Lou only wanted to do a 1 year contract and Marty wanted the security of the second year, fearing a lockout. He hired an agent so he could field offers from other teams, seeking the second year. |

I thought it was a little much too, I figured mid 5's per year, around Brown's deal. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I doubt he would want to leave the Rangers and I don't think he will but if someone is offering 1 mil plus more per year, I'm sure he would have to at least take a look at it. |

To not score, win faceoffs, or set up any goals? He's done a great job at that, thus far. That contract has proven to be horrible, but I'm not sure how that impacts the Rangers situation with Cally. |

It is pretty nauseating, but at least it fits on the page, and doesn't screw up the alignment like other pics that are put up. |

well you said that Cally is not worth a penny more than 5 million, and I am not sure if there is a person involved in hockey who'd rather have Zajac over Callahan |

Of course he is and he will get at least 9 a year from somebody if the rangers don't want to pay it. I think in the end he stays but he isn't staying on the cheap |
